Fall/Winter 2008/09: Lace

Many of us have seen the Fall 2008 lace collection by Prada, and out in bloggyland, it has gotten mixed reviews. Some thought it was too "mature" looking for the brand, others, like me (but I guess I'm of the "mature" age)thought it was really pretty (pictures of Prada Fall 2008 runway show courtesy style.com)!I especially LOVE the Prada bag, below, although it out of my price range.

Although I wouldn't advise being dressed in lace from head to toe, I do think a lit bit goes a long way, and for some reason mixed with a strand of cream (or black)pearls looks even more chic to me (pearls shown are from Macys). The look may scream "old money" to many and there may be a time and a place for it (don't wear it to walk your dog), but nonetheless it appeals to me. I think lace can be considered a wardrobe essential because it never really goes out of style, and it is always appropriate for special ocassions.
Here are some lacy influences below: Lace peasant top for $59 at Ann Taylor Loft. Lace skirt, $110 at Banana Republic. Yeah, it's more expensive, but it's a keeper! What a great skirt for the upcoming holidays. Lace Trench coat by Susan Graver, available in three colors for $35.42, at QVC.

I love the lace, and the pearls. I'm old-school, though.

lace is so classic, and it doesn't get preppier than lace and pearls. I'm all about big, chunky pearls.

You know, I never understood this "lace is for mature women" thing. Maybe because I've hardly ever seen older women wearing a lot of lace. I think lace looks good on women of any age!

Lace can look really stylish, but in moderation ... cf. animal prints and the like. Too much can look like 80's Overload or kind of tarty and trashy ("Which one of you beee-yotches is my mother?").

I have 2 very pretty ivory sweaters with black lace detailing that I love, and a pair of beige satin Mary Janes covered with black lace that I got for $9 at Ross, and adore!

I like wearing lace in the colder months. Lace in the warmer months feels a bit too wedding-y. And somehow I prefer black lace to other colors.

We kinda missed the whole lace thing in Australia I think. Oh is it still coming? Maybe it will catch next year. that bag from prada is so special. I would like to have it framed.

I've been eyeing that skirt for some time ... I think it's a great way to work the lace trend without being too over-the-top.

I agree, I think it can look great, but not if it's overdone... and there's a place for it. Love the pearls too :)
