I have been ignoring the cardigans in my closet for the last couple of years. Mainly because they are pretty plain (yet classic) and began to bore me to death! Even though they are closet essentials and will last for years, sometimes I get in a rut with my clothes and just give up on them, until I get inspiration from somewhere else to wear them again. Now I'm not talking about the newer boyfriend style. I mean the classic crew neck or v-neck button front style, shown right (from Ann Taylor Loft).Much like my friend Denise, who has the habit of seeing a mannequin or sales person's outfit and buying it all as she sees it, I sometimes have to be inspired by others outfits in order to snap me out of my rut. This happened recently when I saw a women wearing a cardigan that had interesting ruffle and sequins details on it. Then I saw someone else wearing one with a great scarf around her neck and a brooch. So that made me re-think wearing cardis again, using a fresh eye. And also about adding a couple to my closet that have more interesting details.
Here are some of my inspirations below:
I could wear one with short sleeves, with a longer layering tee or turtleneck underneath, and a great brooch (picture below also from Ann Taylor Loft).
Or I could wear a scarf and a long layering necklace (picture below from Banana Republic).
Or, I can try a white shirt underneath and a thin belt over the cardigan (picture below from NY and Company).
Or, last, I could add some new cardigans to my closet with some interesting details, like the ones below from Apt. 9 and Daisy Fuentes for Kohls.

It's funny you write of this today, because a couple days ago, I was digging around in my closet for a bag, and stumbled upon about five cardigans I'd forgotten I even still had! I need to see if they're still workable, because honestly, everything in my closet is boring me to tears right now!
Hope you have an enjoyable Thanksgiving!
I have been ignoring mine too -LOL!
Hmmm maybe a second look?
I like the Kohls choices!
I really love cardis. So much, I've amassed a small collection of them!
I love that Daisy Fuentes sweater! I think we might be going to Kohls on Black Friday so I'm hoping our local store carries it. ^_^
I love everything in my closet and only wish I had more opportunities to wear them more often, but I think that will happen when my husband finally gets here. So I'm ready, ha ha!
That said, the one style that bored me so much I just stopped buying it was the collared shirt (any color, but esp. white). I know it's considered a must-have, but collared shirts never worked all that well for me. Maybe because I wore sooo many of them in my teens and 20s. I haven't bought a collared shirt for years now.
I love cardigans and the one with the scarf has inspired me.
What cuteness!!!
M ^..^
I love cardigans. i probably have about 30 and I wear them with everything.
I love cardigans, especially this year I´ve bought some more to use down my jackets for the office.
kss from Spain
;-)
I love the images of different cardigans you put on here. For me, the items in my closet that totally bores me are my polo shirts. I went through a phase where I wore a polo almost every day, so now I try to find more creative ways of wearing them (often with layers) so that they don't look so plain.
I completely rely on cardigans in my closet if only because I wear so few long sleeved shirts or sweaters.
I'm always getting bored by my shoes. It's a constant battle to keep myself from buying more!
