And don't get me started on all the "fake" mascara ads and commercials- I am no longer nieve enough to get sucked into them. There is no way that celebrity or model is not getting help with false eyelashes.
Anyhoo, I feel like I tested them all (but I know I really haven't). I have tried lots of drugstore brands, as well as Clinique, Definicils by Lancome (curious about Fatale though), False Eyelashes by Prescriptives, and so on.
So, right now I am using Loreal Voluminous black waterproof mascara. And I keep going back to it, because it works the best for me but I don't love love it (I love it, but I'm not in love with it). ;)

The problem I have is that if I don't use the waterproof kind, black flakes begin collecting under my eyes by the end of the day. And let's face it- I already have enough of a problem with under eye darkness- I don't need more.
The Budget Babe recently said she swears by Maybelline Define-A-Lash so I am going to try that one next.

So, my lovely readers, PLEASE share with me what mascara you swear by that doesn't flake or clump ( at least very much), and gives you some length and volume.

I so agree about the commercials- there is NO way those are real lashes we are seeing! I also use voluminous and like it, so I am curious too about others comments!
Mascara...sigh...I am always, always, always on the hunt for The Best Mascara. Right now, I am using some Maybelline Great Lash (the pink and green tube) that I had unopened in my bathroom closet. It was with resignation that I opened it, for I hate it (I bought it on a cheap discount). It may be the longtime winner of great products, but I've always hated it, and was disappointed to find I have another unopened tube of it in my caddy. By mid-morning, I have dark, smudgey circles under my eyes. Not a good look.
I have use the Maybelline Define-A-Lash before and I did like it quite a bit. Until it's time for me to buy some new mascara, though, I'll dream of a day when we have world peace and mascara that actually makes my lashes look like what they want you to think you're getting when you see the ads. Long and lush and not fake.
I've tried the defincils too- it is touted as their best seller and they sell it at Sephora- I didn't buy it again and I am stuck in limbo too! I just try whatever's on special!
I really like Mary Kay's Signature mascara but I'm too cheap to replace it so now I'm using Volume Couture by Max Factor and it's pretty good so far.
That was very poor sentence structure. Sorry, I was in a hurry.
I use Maybelline Great Lash for the length and volume, but yeah, it leaves dark circles.
I used the Loreal from your post a long time ago and may go back to that.
My problem is that all non-waterproof mascaras run on me by midday, but I HATE waterproof mascara b/c it's too dang hard to remove and I can't stand mascara buid-up. It makes my eyes feel too icky.
i'm usually a voluminous girl but I broke down and purchased the diorshow from sephora two weeks ago. i've tried it before and didn't like it but this time i'm really digging it! it really does give the look of falsies.
Ugh, don't even get me started on mascara. Right now I'm using Korres - when I actually wear mascara - before I've used CG, Loreal, Bare Escentuals and Philosophy. My problem is that by the end of the day my eyes are so dry and ichy that I'm constantly rubbing them. Also, none of the mascaras I've ever tried gives me anything looking remotely like what you see in ads and on commercials. I might have to try Define-A-Lash.
I've tried lots of them. I'm currently using a L'Oreal one that is one of those 2 part ones (white base, black topcoat). It's not bad, but would probably flake on you.
Have you tried one of the tubing mascaras? Mirenesse does one - have seen some others around (can't remember where sorry), they promise NOT to flake.
OH such a good topic. I feel the same I have a long time love affair with mascara and I feel like I have tried them all and I absolutely dispise drug store mascara as all the tubes I have gotten suckered into buying have failed me MISERABLY! My all time favorite is Dior Diorshow! Its incredible! I have the same problem with it flaking off and making me look like a raccoon, but Dior DOESN'T DO THAT! Its fabulous. Of course it comes with a fabulous price tag. So after my last bottle ran out I decided to go looking for a mascara on the cheap and I figured why not go the cheapest! ha! AND LET ME TELL YOU IT WORKED! I had seen loads of ads for this (some make up artists swear by it) so I dove in. MAYBELLINE GREAT LASH MASCARA! Its like the godfather of mascaras! try it! seriously. I'll try to post some pictures so you can see the results!

I say the key is eyeliner. If I was on Survivor my luxury item would be eyeliner. It makes the lashes appear thicker. Everyday I wipe on a thick stripe, then take off half of it with a Qtip to make it more natural.

wow - you guys are GREAT- I have lots to consider and choose from now! I'll be sure to do a follow up post!!
TPTM: I have tried Great Lash (pink tube, right?) but maybe its worth a second try?
Hi! I SWEAR by RMK volumising mascara. On one end is the white fibre stuff you put on before applying colour (on the other end). The amazing thing about this mascara is that even if you happen to smudge it while applying, all you need to do is wait for it to dry and sort of swipe it off with a cotton bud. When dry, it becomes gel like. It doesn't ever flake and comes off easily. Its abit pricey but worth every cent! Do try it!
I keep going back to Lancome's Definicils - it has worked the best for me thus far - it is very expensive though. Now that I am on a more tight budget I tried the Great Lash again (pink and green tube) it gets great reviews but I HATE it - smudges - doesn't dry quick and gives me dark circles under my eyes which I already have naturally so I don't need anymore help. I would love to find a cheaper version but for now my best bet is Lancome.
I have two favorites now . . .I used to use Voluminous as well, but then I wondered into Kohls one day and discovered "Big Flirt thickening mascara". It is THE BEST!!!! I, too seem to have trouble with keeping the mascara on my lashes, but this stuff thickens, lengthens, and stays put. I believe the line is actually made by Bobbi Brown. My drugstore fave is Maybelline "Collosal Volum' express" - almost as good as the Flirt brand. I use this one daily - and save my "Big Flirt" for when I want a little more umph . . .
DiorShow, DiorShow, DiorShow. I've almost tried them all.
" I love it but I'm not in love with it" You are too funny! hehe...:)
My fave mascara brand is Lancome and I usually get the Definicilis or Fatale. Whenever I wear Fatale, people ask me if I have fake lashes on? To me it's the most surprising thing, because I have really thin, straight lashes that look nothing like fake...haha
But anyways...do try it out next time
xoxo

I highly recommend Avon's Supershock mascara... I've gotten compliments when wearing it.
The BEST mascara ever is Cliniques' High Impact. I have tried EVERYTHING, from L'Oreal, Maybelline, Estee Lauder, all of them and this one is the best. It lengthens and makes your lashes look thicker, it also does not flake or cake up. LOVE IT!!
Thanks for the mention! Yes, Define A Lash is my new favorite. Another great mascara that's good for contact lens wearers like myself is Clinique Naturally Glossy, never flaked for me. It's not "high-impact" but it's perfect for every day use.
I hated mascara with a passion. It never looked good, always wound up with raccoon, or worse, black smears. I bucked it all and went the eyelash extension route. I got my first set a year ago and have never looked back!
