Ironing-Up For Debate?

OK, I am going to out myself today- and I'm a little nervous because I write a style blog.........

but, here goes...

I NEVER, EVER IRON! ANYTHING. LIKE, EVER!

Unless, I am desperate, of course-like with a wrinkly button down shirt, where the front panel or the collar just doesn't lay right.

But even then, I might just give it up and opt for something else to save myself the time and aggravation! No iron shirts, anyone?

So, you may wonder-What do I do instead?

Well, I have two very good friends-

1. The Dryer (hello dryer, my BFF- if you ever break down I may cry, or resort to my other friend down there)

Just pop that wrinkly piece of clothing in there and SHAZAM! it comes out fluffy and unwrinkled!

2. Downy Wrinkle Releaser, one of the best inventions ever made in my humble opinion.

You spray it on, smooth the material down and POOF the wrinkles are gone- works like magic- I swear!

WELL. I feel so much better I got that off of my chest.

Now c'mon there's got to be someone out there just like me (Bueller, Bueller..).

I only know of one other friend like me (Mary Jo, where are you to back me up?)....

Do I lead a lonely existence?

I hate ironing, so I pay a woman to do it for me. Pressed clothes, but not by me.

haha I'm just like you, I swear by the dryer and Winkle Releaser. Seriously, pick up a bottle - you won't be dissapointed. Jeans a bit too tight out of the dryer? Spritz them with Wrinkle Releaser (on the inside, yes it'll be a bit damp but it dries super quick, really!). Shirt a bit wrinkled from being shoved in the drawer? Wrinkle Releaser! My husband has to iron his work clothes every day and every time I've tried to iron for him he says I do it wrong - because I've never ever ironed anything. Besides, with a 3 year old I'm lucky if I get a break for 5 minutes, let alone enough time to iron! :)

I too rarely iron my clothes (mostly because I'm just not very good at it, which is probably because I don't do it very often!). I'll also hang up clothes while running the shower, this helps push wrinkles out as well.

You're not alone-- I never iron anything if I can help it. It's a little more challenging now that I no longer have a dryer, but it's amazing what you can do with wet clothes as you hang them up!

Also, I must try that Wrinkle Release. Never heard of it, but it sounds awesome.

Passion4Fashion said...

I don't iron ANYTHING! I know how as my mom taught me to iron so long ago but I just DON"T iron anything. I buy my clothes not to have to iron and if something is wrinkled I either wear the wrinkles out(or figure it is going to wrinkle while wearing) or I hang it up to get the wrinkles out for the next day. LOVE IT!

When I iron, I make things WORSE. And I am so investing in a bottle of that wrinkle releaser. Brilliant!

I own an iron, but I can count on one hand the number of times I've used it. In fact, oh, here's a big confession - I've had a dress shirt hanging up in my laundry room for....let's say four years (seriously)(though it's probably longer) that needs to be ironed, but I won't iron it because I iron like a clod, and now it's too far gone for the dryer to fix. Heck, it's probably too far out of style to fix!

Ironing is against everything I believe in!

Michelle@Life with Three said...

What?!?!? There is a product that releases the wrinkles and DOES NOT involve an iron?!? How did I miss it! I'm so picking that up.

Ironing is one of my least favorite chores. I despise it and, like you, try to avoid it at all costs! :)

Sarah said...

Never, ever iron. The dryer is my best friend, too, environment be damned. :)

spray bottle, little fabric softener, water and you have an inexpensive wrinkle releaser:)

(sorry I missed your anniversary-hope it was real nice,)

I iron, but doesn't mean I like it....;D

Hubby takes his shirts to the dry cleaner and I used the ironing board as a drying board for sweaters or a place to hang my bra. Love the Downy wrinkle releaser idea--thanks for the tip,

My dear Christine: A clean, heavy starched, pressed shirt, with crease down the sleeve; that stands up on its own and snaps when you bend your arm is something that brings confidence to anyone that has been on a sales call or has attended an important business meeting. Putting on a shirt that has been ironed to perfection is something that sets the tone for the rest of the day. I would suggest that the simple exercise of ironing is much more an exercise in positive attitude adjustment than it is in the futility of pressing fabric. I’ve tried many dry cleaners and none have been able to press a shirt to my satisfaction. Hence, I’m afraid a sprinkle of water, a tumble dry, and a wrinkle releaser will be no substitute for a solid hunk of iron, some heavy starch, and a little elbow grease.

Yeah..I'm with you...I hardly ever iron, but there are still times when I need the iron for extra delicate things or I use a steamer:) It's very easy to use and very convenient

I've fantasized about wrinkle releaser for a long time! looks like i've got a visual to go to the store with now! bravo! thanks for the suggestion!

one question: does it make your clothes smell funny or do anything to the quality of them?

Christina Lee said...

Lydia- it has what I would call a fresh smell and doesnt do any damage!!

Christina Lee said...

Johnny, my dear friend- I am outing you under anonymous!! You iron loving professor man!!!! I love that you iron everything!and I will agree with your comment to a certain degree-BUT it still won't change me ;)

Talk Pretty To Me said...

OHHHH that releaser stuff looks amazing! I hate to iron, absolutely hate it! Will definately be trying this out!

Kristin said...

I loathe, despise and abominate ironing. I make major use of my dryer too!

AndreaLeigh said...

i don't iron, period. if the wrinkles don't come out in the dryer, I don't wear it.

southernrose said...

I have discovered something that works just as well as Wrinkle Releaser and is less expensive - a spray bottle of water. And you can refill it for free from the tap. I agree - Ironing = Pain In The Neck! I only iron if something needs some heavy starching and needs to look crisp.

Christina Lee said...

um, southern rose, water would not work like the wrinkle releaser- maybe with an iron- but the wrinkle releaser is for no ironing!
I think I am going to show some before and after pictures soon!

I don't even OWN an iron! Downey Wrinkle Releaser is the best thing invented since - ever! :)

Unknown Mami said...

Not only do I not iron, I don't even care that my clothes are wrinkled. Doesn't bother me one bit.

hmmm...ironing is the only chore i love. I love it so much that i iron my sheets, my pj's anything I can get my hands on.
don't judge me....
i find it theraputic...and i spray with lavender water sometimes too...
it could be an illness...
not sure :)
stopping by from sits...congrats on your sits day!

I hate to iron. My husband finally signed up for work uniforms, getting me off of the ironing hook forever! Well.. until we have somewhere to go..

Over from SITS!

LivingInspired said...

Does anyone iron anymore, really? I do my husband's work shirts for him every once and awhile, but 90% of the time, we spritz 'em with water and toss them in the dryer. Screw you iron!

betteroffwithcats said...

I never iron either, although I do own one. I feel as long as it's on the hanger the clothes usually don't attract wrinkles. However, thanks for the Downy Wrinkle Release tip; they'll be great for the odd wrinkles that slip through. Thank-you!

I'm with you! If it needs ironing, I don't wear it - end of story lol! My dryer is my favorite appliance. :-P

I never iron either but thanks for telling me about the Downy Wrinkle Releaser--now maybe I can use that and not wear wrinkled t-shirts anymore! I'm going to share this in my Things I Learned This Week post at www.zemeks.blogspot.com with a link back here today.

Congrats on your SITS day!

Let's put it this way.I wanted to do a craft that required the use of an iron. I had to find the iron, then I gave up on the craft because I had no idea how to use it.

The wrinkle release function on the dryer is fabulous. I heard bringing your clothes into the bathroom while having a shower also works.

Happy Sits day.

I'm an ironing freak! I grew up going to Catholic schools with uniforms that needed ironing and then ROTC with uniforms that needed ironing. I can't help myself.

I realized one day when I found myself ironing socks, because they were the only thing I hadn't ironed; that I had a problemo.

I don't want any more issues, so I just fluff my socks now:)

Andrea said...

Sorry, I heart ironing almost as much as I heart Target. I can iron away and kind of meditate! It's an escape without going to the spa. Ok, not quite like that, but I do enjoy ironing!

Tsquared417 said...

I don't even know where my iron is located in my house. There. phew, I feel better.

Jenn said...

You are not alone. There is a shirt I haven't worn in 4 months because I can't be bothered to iron it.

Mrsbear said...

I have not ironed in years. I love my dryer. Although I wasn't aware of that wrinkle-release product, I'll look for it at my nearest Target. ;)

Judy said...

Hold to something...I LOVE ironing...yep, you heard me. I think it's because we had a "woman" when I was growing up who did our ironing. She would set up the board in front of the tv and when American Bandstand came on, she would teach me to dance. I love the smell of the heat off the iron...conjers up those warm memories.

sandy said...

Oh, I can totally relate! I do not ever iron anything!

Marie said...

You are not alone, I don't iron either...I have one but don't even know how to use it. Right after my clothes come out of the dryer I fold them or hang them and my clothes look great. Now my hubby's business shirts do go to the cleaners so those always look nice. ;)

Lorri Jeanne said...

I'm the same way. I always wondered if the Downy Wrinkle Releaser actually worked. Will have to give that a try :)

Kearsie said...

I haven't ironed anything since the 12th grade. I knew I liked you. First, the awesome jewelry, second the love for Tarzhay, and third, this confession of never ironing.

Young Wife said...

I don't like ironing, but I have to. My husband works for a company that require him to wear a long sleeved dress shirt and tie every day. There's no way I could afford to send all of his clothes out, and the only truly wrinkle free clothes I've found are from Brooks Brothers. He has a few pieces from there, but not an entire wardrobe. Since I have to iron, I'll find a chick flick I really want to watch and tell myself I can only watch it while I'm ironing.

sweetjeanette said...

I detest ironing too... now I've gotta check out the spray miracle for wrinkles you talked about! I used to be the delegated "ironer" growing up, to which I'd stand before the ironing board with a GARBAGE BAG or ironing to do. (It wasn't until I was gone and married that I realized my mother hated ironing too! LOL)

Stopping by from SITS on YOUR DAY!

Michelle said...

I am just like you! I swear my hubby irons better than I do. Maybe that is why I hate it so much. Unless you are trying to iron a crease in a pant or collar the dryer does just as well at removing wrinkles and takes a lot less effort.

When I used to work at big law firm in downtown Denver I once said I never ironed and you should've seen the look on the other people's faces, like I had committed a sin! One attorney (20-30 years older than me) even said not ironing clothes is like leaving the house without brushing your hair, your look is not complete. Funny part is, none of them would've ever known I didn't iron unless I fessed up. Now that I know it is such a sin in some people's book I don't admit it so easily.

We seem to have a lot in common. I am going to follow your blog so I can read more.

leigh said...

A flat iron works in a pinch for my husband's ties. I'll grab him before he walks out the door for work and flat iron it while it's around his neck. I'm such a great wife!

Chaotic Kristy said...

While I'm not with you on this, because I do Iron my husband on the other hand cant iron at all. I would be surprised if he knew how to adjust it to the right setting. And this may be why I iron.

Michelle Hart said...

I am totally with you! I also don't buy clothes that look like they would require ironing. I didn't even own an iron until April of last year, and the only reason I have an iron now is because of my new sewing hobby. I tell my husband it is NOT to be used on anything but sewing!

Romy said...

You crack me up! Love the tips :-) Happy SITS Day!

MrsOrtelle said...

I HATE ironing, but unfortunately my husband likes most of his shirts crispy pressed, which the dryer doesn't do :( It's a labor of love though, so I'm happy to oblige him. I mean after all, he buys me all the shoes I could ever want! ;)

Meanbean said...

I don't iron my clothes. Period. If it's too wrinkly I wear something else.

However, I do iron a lot, because I sew all the time. And I can't bear un-ironed sewing, it makes my eyeballs cringe!

The Royal Family said...

nope I am with you. In fact i don't buy clothes that require an iron... I just don't.

hate it!

Zeemaid said...

I used to iron.. a lot. All those white cotton blouses and dress pants and skirts for work. I hated it but I hated wrinkles more. So I shied away from those clothes in the last 6 years or so and now basically avoid wearing things that require ironing. Tees get taken out of the dryer immediately and hung up just to avoid the whole wrinkle thing. NEver heard of the downy wrinkle release though... very cool. Thanks

Happy FB day. I am really enjoying reading your blog about styles etc. a lot of great articles!

I almost never iron.

I've been a SAHM for years... now I'm a full time student. I don't have to look nice (although I do try to look nice). Most of my clothes don't get very wrinkly... not sure why that it, it's not like they're polyester or anything. They're mostly cotton.

When I was a fashion designer and went to a place of employment everyday, I ironed my heart out at home and then at work sometimes. Now, it is like a chore to break out the iron.

fumblingtowardsnormalcy said...

I actually like to iron - but only occasionally. If I had to do it on a daily basis I think I'd cry.

Two Normal Moms said...

My ironing board comes out twice a year - in a bad year. I really don't iron unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. Collar that won't lay right? Front panel won't lay right? I use my hair flat iron. If that doesn't work, I change clothes.

hmmm I have never used an iron since I was about 9 and left a huge brown mark on my Dad's shirt. So I figure I have Ironing PTSD and I should avoid ironing at all costs.

I am sitting reading this and realizing I do not even know where my iron is ... I might have felt a little sliver of shame over that fact, but now? No. Not so much.

Yeah. The only thing my iron gets used for is sewing projects. I'm pretty sure we don't have an ironing board at all.

I totally do the dryer thing. My iron is reserved for my endeavors in sewing. For that, an iron is essential! For everyday life, not so much. Not my everyday life anyway!
