My 7-year-old recently came home from school saying one of his friends doesnt know the golden rule and that his mom told him to be mean to soneone if they are mean to you. Every time I felt sick inside hoping it would never be necessary. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy. <br /><br />Another book that I read that deals with this very issue is <i>Nineteen Minutes</i> by Jodi Picoult. Like <i>13 Reasons Why</i> it really drives home how seemingly little bits of meanness can sometimes pile up on someone. Due to a situation that I'm dealing with right now, and my kids have had to witness, I keep reminding them that we don't know what's going on in the person's life. They can't judge the individual based on what they see. There's so much more to the story that they don't know. It's a quote on the board from someone related.
