JUST...BLAH

Ain't life strange?

How one day you can be on such a high... and then the very next day something happens to knock you off your perch.

Sometimes all it takes is the teeniest, tiniest news, word, or gesture to take you down, and suddenly you are falling, falling, falling through a vast crevice of self-doubt and disappointment.

How do you pick yourself back up?

You just do. Somehow. You just do.

Remember this poem (by Veronica Shofstell in 1971)?

After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn’t mean leaning
and company doesn’t always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren’t contracts
and presents aren’t promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman,
not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow’s ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn

It may be a poem in reference to romance or love, but I like to think it's broader than that.
I like to read it when life is getting me down.

And I kinda need it today.

I'm gonna lock myself in the bathroom, take one of these:

And retreat into my weekend!

See ya next week! ;-)

I heart you doll! I really do. I've never read that poem before and I too had a heck of an evening yesterday and am just down in the dumps today... It really and truly sucks! By the way, I noticed your "I'm a Proud Spirit Jumper" on your sidebar, me too!! Are you participating in Cards 4 Cancer?

I'm feeling you woman!

I'm feeling this way as well. And I'm finding this is going on all over my reader today.

It surprises me a bit since it's spring. What's going on with all of us? I kinda know with me.

Hang in there, we love you.

If it weren't for those bad days or times the good times wouldn't exist. That's what I always try to remind myself. Peaks and valleys babe!

Excellent poem. I love it.

And I agree that sometimes you can be having the best day ever, and then in a MINUTE it can change. Such is life.

Hope you have a great weekend.

Honestly, I'm bad...I pick myself back up by eating a lot of chocolate. Suddenly everything seems better after a sugar rush!

Happy, Happy Weekend, my love!! :)

Exactly. Like enjoy the breeze on a beautiful day, then the high pitch whine from the motor, followed by a full-throated engine, followed by an immediate decrease in forward movement, followed by an instantaneous arpeggio of car horns behind you, followed by the death...yes, the death, of your transmission. Oh, well, at least it was a pretty breezy day to walk to the car shop!

Thanks for sharing this wonderful poem. I've printed it and plan on framing it up in my office. And, I most certainly hope the bath has improved your weekend.

I whistle while I work. Or walk. Or shop. Seriously. I inherited this trait from my Dad, and it works almost every time! Although I have to say some of those close to me do get annoyed, from time to time...
