Comfort Food: Sloppy Joe's

I've never been particularly fond of making sloppy Joe's because I could never find a sauce that I love.

Well look no further than my MIL's simple, yet perfect recipe:

1-2 lb. of ground meat
1 small green pepper
1 small onion
brown sugar and ketchup, to taste
hamburger buns

1. Brown the meat with diced onion and green peppers:

2. Add ketchup and brown sugar to taste (she had NO guidelines):

3. Voila'. Delish! The perfect blend of sweet and tangy.

P.S. Add a slice of American cheese on bottom bun: YUM!

ENJOY!

I haven't made sloppy joes in years. I bet my kids would love them. Hmmm. They kind of messy, right? (I meant the SJs, but it goes both ways). Maybe that wouldn't be such a great idea after all. But I'm still borrowing your recipe. :)

Wow! Simple enough, though I've never been a big fan of the stuff. It reminds me of cafeteria lunches in elementary school :o/

Never had 'em with cheese before! I'm all over this recipe.... Tell me this! Are they more like "Manwich" than a sloppy joe?

I am way hungry now. It's too hot here to cook, right now. Oh and cheese is always good. (Note: this would be one of the only recipes I'd say no to chocolate. LOL)

I'm not going to say we're on the same wavelength because I mentioned Sloppy Joe's in my blog post today and then you posted a recipe...I'm not going to say it because I don't have to. You've probably already thought it.

I love sloppy joes. I make them with Good Ground (hamburger substitute) and they are so good! I will have to give your recipe a try!

I always love sloppy joes - with dill pickles!! Yum yum :) I wonder how this would taste with black beans instead of meat??

I haven't made those in awhile.
Adding the cheese sounds like a great idea.

Sadly I didn't realize there was any other option aside from Manwich. Hm.
