YO, Daddy!

So we are leaving for a long weekend in Michigan.

But Sunday is Father's Day and I wanted to give a shout-out to all the special dads out there, including my husband (aka my baby's daddy) ;-)

BEFORE I WAS A DAD:
I had quiet conversations on the phone,
I slept as late as I wanted and I slept all night long.

I never tripped over toys or forgot lullabies,
I had never been puked on, pooped on, spit on, chewed on, peed on, or pinched by tiny fingers.

Before I was a Dad,
I never held a screaming child so the doctors could give shots,
I never looked into teary eyes and swallowed back tears,
I never felt my heart break into pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt,
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.

Before I was a Dad,
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down,
I never sat up watching a baby sleep,
I never got up in the middle of the night to make sure everything was okay,
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.

Before I was a Dad,
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside of my body,
I didn't know that having something so small could make me feel so important,
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment, or the satisfaction of being a dad.

Before I was a Dad,
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much,
I never knew that I could love someone so much,
I never knew I would love being a dad,
And I didn't know the special bond between a father and his child.

(This anonymous poem was really for moms, but I thought it fit dads just as well, esp. the one I'm married to.)

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!

That was so sweet. And true. Thanks for reminding me why I'm a mom (minus the puking and peeing stuff--I'm trying to forget that). :D

I can see why that poem is for moms! It's wonderful! It work okay for daddies too.

Is that of pic of the hubs and your baby? Adorable!! She looks almost like a little grown-up. And super cute!

Ha ha Justine- that’s my SON about three years ago. But we used to get that a lot--”she’s cute”—didn’t bother me at all ;-)

Fun adaptation. Dads should get credit, too!

Very cute picture, and enjoy your vacation!

Yay for good Dads everywhere! I can't believe it's almost that time already. Glad for the reminder.

My son recently got a haircut, but before that some people thought he was a girl initially. It's hard to tell when they're really young sometimes, especially if the clothes are neutral colors :)

Enjoy Dad's Day with your boys.
I feel bad because I'm leaving for vacation on Father's Day and I will be missing my 15 yr wedding anniversary! (Good thing my motherinlaw planned the excursion!).
