Book to Movie: Water For Elephants

I ADORED this book when I read it a couple of years ago! Anyone else? FIRST LINE: I an ninety. Or ninety-three. One or the other.

From publishers weekly: With its spotlight on elephants, Gruen's romantic page-turner hinges on the human-animal bonds. The novel, told in flashback by nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski, recounts the wild and wonderful period he spent with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, a traveling circus he joined during the Great Depression.

When 23-year-old Jankowski learns that his parents have been killed in a car crash, leaving him penniless, he drops out of Cornell veterinary school and parlays his expertise with animals into a job with the circus, where he cares for a menagerie of exotic creatures.

He also falls in love with Marlena, one of the show's star performers—a romance complicated by Marlena's husband, the unbalanced, sadistic circus boss who beats both his wife and the animals Jankowski cares for. Can I see Reese Witherspoon as Marlena? Absolutely!

How about Robert Pattison as Jacob? YES! Not the sparkly Edward vampire of TWILIGHT, but the more sensitive and layered character he was in REMEMBER ME.

Cannot WAIT to see the movie this month.

Oh, I loved this book so much! I'm really nervous about the movie, though. I've got my fingers crossed that Pattinson can pull off Jacob, who's such a great character. And I adore Reese, but for some reason while I read, I pictured someone like Zooey Deschanel. I know Reese will be great, though.

I haven't read the book, but I remember it mentioned on a blog last year. I didn't realize it was coming out as a movie. It will definitely be on my Must See list. :D

Such a great book! I do think Reese can pull it off. I have more concerns over Pattinson.

I had very little desire to see this movie until I came here. Now I think I need to read the book first.

I am embarrassed to say I have never heard of this book or movie until a couple of days ago. And now I am even more intrigued.

And now as a laugh...I don't think my daughter would ever accept Robert Pattison playing someone named Jacob. haha

I ADORED this book and I can't WAIT to see the movie. I think they cast it perfectly. I've never seen Robert Pattinson as Edward. In my mind, he'll always be Cedric Diggory :)

I can't wait for this movie! This was a book that I finished and just sat for awhile with it afterwards, sad that it was over and moved by it. Did you know that Sara Gruen wrote it as a NaNoWriMo book!?! How crazy is that! And I loved R Pat in "Remember Me."

I really really really want to love this movie. I hate it when I fall for a book and sit through the movie tearing it apart!

I am really behind on book reading. But thank you for the suggestion. I have heard only good things.
