A Missed Opportunity

"A message in a bottle, a smoke signal, letters written in the sand, love--lost and found." That's what it says on Sophie Blackall's blog, the artist I crushed on almost two years ago in this post, for her Missed Connections drawings.

She scrawls them based on what she reads in the classifieds section. How COOL is that?

Here are some examples:

"When I put your coat collar up to protect you from the cold...

on the corner of E Houston and Bowery...

and I looked in your eyes...

I was very tempted to kiss you...

but I don't steal women from other men...
still...
I was tempted..."

"You were reading Catch-22 on the subway this morning. I have never seen such a beautiful profile. I wanted to say hi, but then you’d turn towards me and I wouldn’t be able to look at your profile anymore. You were so into your book, I don’t think you noticed me falling in love with you. But I thought I’d ask, just in case."

"i bought you that milkshake

you just didn't realize it."

AWESOME, RIGHT?

So imagine my EXCITEMENT when I saw she had a BOOK based on her drawings! It would make the perfect coffee table book and is SO on my Christmas list (if I don't buy it before then)!

ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!

Wow -- a whole book of sweet, romantic, missed opportunities? I'll have to check this out! What a cute idea, although I'm afraid I'll start tearing up.

(Hallmark commercials make me cry -- and they have HAPPY endings!)

I already have it - it's wonderful. And there's an intro about how she came across Missed Connections that I really loved. I definitely couldn't wait until Christmas.

These make me swoon, and I'm going to purchase the book tomorrow when I get to work. I wish we had it in stock so I could immediately swoon! Love her drawings, and didn't even realize she's the illustrator for the Ivy & Bean series!
