In The Meantime

Do you read Nova Ren Suma's blog (author of IMAGINARY GIRLS)? She has these fantastic posts where she asks authors to share inspirations and turning points in their careers.

I've read a few of them, but this quote from author Sara Zarr (author of HOW TO SAVE A LIFE, etc.) has recently stuck with me:

"The creative process, and the creative life, is mostly full of moments between the idea and the being done, the spark and the blazing fire, the shimmering magic and the finished piece. We’re always living in the gap between our vision of what could be and what might be, and what is."

Because it's true that most days fall into that in-between gray state and even though that's where magic can happen, it's also a time for patience and quiet, struggles, fear and failure too. It's about the work and getting it done. And then shaping it to make it your own.

All while hoping and dreaming that it's good or just, enough. To fill up your soul (and other's too). It's about having constant faith that as long as you create, as long as you believe, you'll get there. To that somewhere you're trying to go. And when you do, others will celebrate with you.

But in the meantime, you are here. And it's gray and misty and unclear, but every now and again the brilliant beams of the moon shine down upon you.  And on the most amazing of days, you'll see a shooting star too.

I'm guessing that you write for yourself first, and then the extra is the icing?

This was a fabulous post. I loved the pictures that carried throughout... inpsiring themselves!

I've just fallen into the magical part of writing. Which is nice since the rest of my life is still complete chaos. At least this is one area where the chaos is allowed to happen and I don't panic, I embrace.

*sigh* You're so wise. Yes, very true. I'm attempting to practice patience and acceptance right now, as a matter of fact. Between the "AH! This idea kicks butt!" and "Polished and Done!" stage. =/
