Three Reasons Why I Love: My YA Book Club

1. Everyone in the group is an avid reader or writer of YA fiction. We are all about YA and nothing but. Which equals to utopia in my world. I could sit and talk YA with them for DAYS, I tell you.

2. I am one of the only non-agented and un-published members (um, five of them have books coming out in the next year), so I should feel intimidated. And, I kind of do. But we start talking, and I hear about their struggles along the way, and I somehow feel better about my journey.

3. All of the group members are smart as a whip, and they have great advice and recommendations. What's that saying? Something like--surround yourself with people smarter than you...

The only way it could be more win-win for me is if the group moved to a restaurant, and I could discuss YA with a glass of wine in my hand. *smiles sheepishly* Any takers?

Our next book club is August 15th and the book is DECEPTION.

I always come home from the book club feeling totally refreshed! You guys just make me happy.

And I know we owe you an e-mail. We'll get back to you this week when we have a break in edits.

Love our book club! Nothing better than talking books and reading and a bit of publishing gossip. ;)

I've been dying to join a book club but erm, there all adult books and I love YA too much :( But reading about yours gives me an idea, I should start one! OOO Deception, very cool I can't wait for the review on it.
Also me and my CP's can discuss YA for hours...hours...
Hope you had a great weekend!

Wine would definitely add to the experience. :D

I just bought Deception (haven't read it yet). Heard it's really good.

OH, I so wish I lived where a group club like this hung out! How awesome for you.

I think it is UNFAIR of you Clevelanders to deprive the rest of us schlubs from such merry making.

You're doing it right, by surrounding yourself with smart people and, most important, networking... sooner or later, you'll get mentioned to an agent and things will start to pop... good fortune to you all...

I read and write YA, so I do love it, but I have to admit I don't quite understand the CRAZE with it. I mean I know it sells really well and I understand why nearly every agent reps it, but there are other good books out there.

Not that you're saying there aren't Christina, I'm glad you love your group!

I learned so much from my groups. Love the way you write about this.

You know, Matt, I feel like an anomaly amongst my same-aged (adult) peers. They don't know about the craze or really even read in that genre (so it may be a craze amongst publishing folks only)--so that's why it's so nice to chat with people who write in my genre. And totally agree-tons of great adult books too!

FUN! I so need to move wherever you are, like stat. And I agree that you should always surround yourself with people smarter than you. It's been working for me!

I'm jealous you have a YA book club. I wish I had one too!

Should I feel awful now that I am the non-100%-YA-person? Haha, but really, our book club rocks! Even for me :)

Your book club sounds awesome ad perfect for you. I don't have a book club... I discuss all the books I read with my mom. Haha.

I totally agree with surrounding yourself with people smarter! And I wish I lived in your part of the world so I could join your bookclub, it sounds fantastic! But oh yeah, a glass of wine would be the cherry on the cake.
