The Collector

I always know a change in seasons is upon us when my six-year-old begins a new nature collection.

Here's how I know it's Autumn: Acorns all in a row (to help out the squirrels), and constant questions about how they store food for the winter.
Piles left everywhere, of fall leaves, cool sticks and buckeyes. Questions about why leaves change colors and random ones about whether this stick or that is a good length for Yoda to use.

I love it all and wouldn't trade it for the world.

I'm sure I collected things as a child, but for the life of me, can't really remember what.

How about you?

Oh, I wish I could remember! Now I seem to only collect fortune cookie fortunes, and lately, that's just letting me know I need to lay off the Chinese food for a bit!

I discover it's autumn around here when the boys start alerting me to every lady bug crawling up our windows or walls around here. The population of those little bugs would have me believe it's been autumn for a long time now!

I am expecting you collected the same thing.

I love fall as well.

I love his curiosity! I used to collect junk. Anytime I could get my hand on anything that was a pretty color it ended up under my bed in my hoarding boxes. I had napkins and matchboxes from weddings, bags presents came in, weird little trinkets.

I think Kylie outgrew her collecting phase. We had our fair share of leaves and acorns for years though.

My kids collect piles of leaves for their craft projects. Only the projects never get started, and I have crumpled leaves all over the house.

Another week and the leaves will be off the trees. :(

That is so fun! Every single bit of it. I used to collect rocks when we would go camping. Shells at the beach. That's about it.

I seem to remember a colorful leaf collection that I stored in my play freezer, you know, the kitchen set? I also seem to remember them turning brown awfully quick after storing them.

Love the acorns. They're so perfect, they almost appear fake!

I always loved the seasonal questions from the little ones. So precious. For us, this season brings the leaves and cooler air but also football fields and the upcoming ice rinks. LOL

I remember collecting leaves and color-coding them and would be so disappointed when they turned all dry and crackly after just a few days. This turned out to be a very handy practice, since I actually went as a pile of leaves to a Halloween party and needed to collect my leaves quickly. I glued them onto the cloth at the very last minute so they would stay fresh – hence, the need for speed.
But, it was more fun watching what my children collected in the fall – besides, sore throats. Come visit when you can.

I love these pictures! It's so fall and sweet because I feel like going out and collecting some things. The most collecting I've done in the past couple years is walnuts, to put around the walls in my room so the spiders stay out. I don't know why they hate walnuts but boy am I ever grateful when it keeps them away.

I remember collecting shells and gems. Outside of nature, coins and stamps.

I used to collect shells and stamps and old coins when I was little. I still have some of them now. They evoke such pleasant memories. :)

Aww, I love this post. What a cutie pie to be concerned about the animals.

I used to collect stuffed animals. Now, it's magnets from my world travels. =)

That's so sweet! I loved collecting acorns for the squirrels, too! Seashells in the summer and rocks all year were big collector items in the house when I was little. :)

we've got squirrels storing up for winter over here too. So sweet of your son to help them out. I collected stamps when I was younger which I still have at my parent's house.

I'm a huge packrat, so yes, I collect things. Now, then, all the time. Some of it I need/like, and some of it is just because I can't stand to throw anything away. One of my many flaws...

Love the pictures! Autumn in California is...a little less obvious, but it's a lovely season. Your kiddo is adorable; love the question about Yoda!

I used to collect rocks. That was my thing. I also collected Disney animated features, but I still sort of do that now. Haha.
