But there are other ways I help that are more personal and impact me on a deeper level.
Like the organization SPIRIT JUMP.
If you sign up, you'll get a call for help in your in-box when someone needs a boost. And boy does it put your life in perspective. The boost you give can be anything--a card, letter, or a little gift.
I just happen to have a jewelry business, so I usually make a piece for someone. But it never seems like enough.
Like last week. I stamped the letter K for for fifteen-year-old Kayla who lost her mother Kathy to cancer and had to live with relatives.
And a B for Shari who lost her husband Bruce to cancer.
I agonized over the stone color and what to write in the card. But it felt REALLY good sending those two packages off.
Heard of the Nashville Floods? There are three writers who've been having an auction for the past seven days to help. It's on the site Do the Write Thing for Nashville.
Agents, authors, editors and artists have donated items. It's amazing watching what people bid to help.
I donated jewelry from my Tags-n-Stones site and it's up for auction THIS WEEKEND! Bid for a good cause?
So what is everyone up to this weekend?
Whatever it is, I hope you have a good one!
I'm going over to a girlfriend's tonight to watch Becoming Jane! I'm really excited about it!
Then on saturday I get to see the hubs! Woohoo!! We will be doing a couples bowling night at a really fancy bowling place I'm pretty excited about it!!!
How selfish of me! You have a wonderful weekend as well!
What a great organization and really sad stories.
The link for Spirit Jump is not working. I would love to get more info on this organization. Can you double check your link??
Have a great weekend!
I've never heard of Spirit Jump before. I might have to look into it. Though, the huz says I have too many "ideas" already so it might just have to be my litle secret!
Have a good weekend.
Spirit Jump is awesome. To send the jewelry is great! I am sure the recipients will treasure them. My SIL and I participated in the cards for cancer day. It was really a cool deal.
Hopefully, I can sleep in a little this weekend!
Wow, what an inspiration you are. And such a powerful force for good. I'm glad I know you.
Maddy, I fixed it!!
I'm a fellow Spirit Jumper. I would think that when your gifts are received, it's a really heartfelt moment for the receiver. How great of you!
Very thoughtful post. I'm painting a wall this weekend.
I am sure that they will treasure those necklaces. My daughters turns 29 on Tuesday so we will be having a family get together this weekend. Hope your weekend is awesome.
I am definitely signing up for Spirit Jump. I'd never heard of it before, but it sounds like an awesome organization! Thanks for the information.
Anyway, I'm writing to all the blogs I follow to ask them to please come help the chimera! :) Just come to my site and click the blog link to see what I mean. Hope to see you over there. thanks! :)
Good for you! I always tingle in my heart of hearts when I hear that folks are "getting involved." This weekend? Well, it's the first in a while where I don't have to grade papers. Soooooooo...perhaps a nap and a little gardening?
Charity is one of the most noble things we can do for each other. And yes, sometimes, charity is right on an elderly that wants to be heard, or a friend that needs advice, someone who needs a smile, we can help each other is so many ways. Beautiful act in orther to help the victims from the flood btw! =D
Oh my gosh...this is one of the coolest sites I have every heard of. Thanks for sharing it, and bless you for passing on your beautiful work!
Possibly working on the garage. It's a scary place in there. I was told many years go to do volunteer work. I never did. Maybe I should!
How generous of you to donate! Good for you!
This weekend I'm hoping it'll stop raining long enough for me to get some gardening done...
Those are wonderful groups to donate to. I'm watching my kids play ball this weekend. :-)
I think it's awesome that you donate your talent. I like you even more now.
As far as my weekend plans:
Working, writing, cleaning. Yay. :)
Have a great weekend!
That is a cool organization. Thanks for introducing me to it!
What a beautiful post. I don't think anyone is immune to needing some perspective every now and again!
Thats really cool, I will have to check out the link. I love stuff like this and thanks for posting it.
